Oklahoma Ranks 42nd in Funding Kids' Anti-Tobacco Ed

Washington, D.C. – In Oklahoma, smoking-caused health care costs the state and its taxpayers $908 million annually. And 24 percent of Sooner State high school students smoke. Each year 9,100 more children and teens become daily smokers and one-third of them will die prematurely due to smoking related illnesses.
The report released today called "Show Us the Money: An Update on the States' Allocation of the Tobacco Settlement Dollars," puts Oklahoma in 42nd place in funding programs to protect kids from tobacco.

KCCU Presents Orchestra Concert Feb. 15

Lawton, Ok. – KCCU is bringing the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra conducted by Buddy Morrow featuring vocalist Walt Andrus to Lawton on Saturday, Feb. 15. The 7:30 p.m. concert will take place at McMahon Memorial Auditorium, 801 N.W. Ferris.
"It's a great gift for your valentine," said KCCU General Manager Mark Norman.

Financial Aid Workshops Set for College-bound Students

Lawton, Ok. – College-bound students of any age are invited to take advantage of free workshops in the area which will focus on information to allow them to apply for financial assistance.
The information provided on admissions and financial aid will be valid for all colleges and universities in Oklahoma and may be used by high school students as well as adults. It will be presented at theses sessions by Cameron University admissions and financial assistance staff members. The free sessions are open to the public.

Volunteers Needed for Veterans History Project

Lawton, Ok. – Representatives from the Library of Congress and the AARP will conduct two training sessions for volunteers who would like to take part in the Veterans Histroy Project work. The training session for volunteers from the community is set for Thursday, Jan. 23, 2--4:30 pm, at Cameron University Student Activities Building, in the 300 block of University Drive, Lawton.
The second session for Cameron University student volunteers is set for 5--6 pm.

Cameron January Business Forum on Stock Market

Lawton, Ok. – Cameron University kicks off the spring semester with its School of Business luncheon forum Friday, January 24, on the topic of "Is It Time to Get Back into the Stock Market?" Presenter will be CU finance professor Dr. T.K. Bhattacharya.
Those interested in having lunch during the forum are invited to enjoy the cuisine at the university's Shepler Center's Will Rogers Room for $4 plus tax by arriving at 11:45 a.m. The presentation is free and it is expected to start about 12:15 p.m. and be completed by about 1 p.m.
