Doug Cole

Director of Broadcasting, Classical Music Host

Doug Cole joined KCCU-FM in April, 2007 as Station Manager and Operations Director. In November 2012, Doug accepted the title of Interim General Manager. Doug became Director of Broadcasting, effective July 1, 2013. Prior to moving to Lawton, Doug was the General Manager of KOCV-FM, Odessa College, in Odessa Texas.

Doug started in Public Radio as a volunteer at KSKA-FM in Anchorage, Alaska in 1987.  After moving to Texas from Alaska at the end of 1990, Doug worked weekends at an AOR station, and weekdays at a CBS Radio Network News/Talk station before starting at KOCV as Operations Coordinator in 1993.

Doug earned his B.A. in Mass Communications with a Speech Minor from The University of Texas, Permian Basin, where he graduated summa cum laude and was named Outstanding Graduate in Mass Communications. He also earned his M. Ed (Adult Learning and Distance Education) from The University of Phoenix.

Doug loves music, and his mother had him participate in church choir from “…day one, to get me out of the house,” said Doug.  He also took eight years of piano, played trombone though two years of college and reads music. New he excels in playing guitar poorly, but he does have some nice guitars, a tube amp and lots of pedals. That blue American Strat HSS is his.

Doug’s wife Renee’ works at Halliburton in Duncan. Together, they share a home with four cats in Elgin, OK.

Doug also wears the station webmaster hat. Doug tweets, but does not Facebook. "You've gotta draw the line somewhere," he says. Doug has never used the word "Wonk" in a conversation and does not eat kale or quinoa.

Doug currently serves as the Chair of the Cameron University Staff Advisory Council. He also serves on the Cameron University Public Exercises Task Force and serves as the Vice President of the Oklahoma Public Media Exchange, the organization that funds the State Impact Oklahoma project.
