City of Lawton Plans Fun in August

Lawton, Ok. – The City of Lawton staff has been involved in planning a number of activities for the first few days in August.
Visitors and residents will be able to celebrate the city's second annual National Kid's Day observance on Saturday, August 2, 4--10 p.m. at the Museum of the Great Plains in Elmer Thomas Park. The giant party is sponsored by the city's Youth Services Division, Ft.Sill Child and Youth Services, Comanche County 4-H and Wal-Mart. Fun includes games and activities, entertainment, petting zoos, storytelling, museum staff demonstrations and more. All of the fun, and even the food, will be free.
Lawton's birthday activities kick off with a free concert by the 77th Army Band at the concert's host site, the Percussive Arts Society Museum courtyard, on Monday, August 4, at 7:30 p.m. The lineup includes music from the 1890s and 1900s plus a sing-a-long and free beverages courtesy of KCCU Radio so bring your lawn chairs and blankets.
On Tuesday, August 5, Lawton's annual birthday bash gets underway at the Museum of the Great Plains at 5:30 p.m. It's free for the public as well.
The Lawton Rangers Rodeo Parade is August 6 followed by four nights of rodeo fun.
