Cole Says Race Between McCain, Obama will be Close

Tulsa, OK – An Oklahoma congressman and Republican Party leader believes the presidential race between Republican John McCain and Democrat Barack Obama likely won't be decided until the November election.

U.S. Rep. Tom Cole of Moore made that observation yesterday during a Tulsa Metro Chamber luncheon.

Cole is the chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee. His name has been mentioned as a potential candidate for Oklahoma governor in 2010, but he says he planned to wait until after this year's election to decide about his political future.

Cole says Democrats appear eager for this year's election and notes that Obama's support has, quote, ``great intensity.'' Cole also says the breadth of that support remains to be seen.

Cole says many Republicans who expected for eight years to be running against former First Lady Hillary Clinton now have to refocus on Obama.
