OBI Calls for Holiday Blood Donors, Giving Bowl T-shirt

Lawton, Ok. – The Oklahoma Blood Institute is trying to replenish the blood supply which typically runs low during the busy holiday season. This year the flu is also keeping possible donors away and that has OBI officials concerned as they supply 90 Oklahoma hospitals as well as the U.S. troops in Iraq with blood.
In the Lawton area, the Southwest Oklahoma Blood Institute Office is at 211 S.W. A Avenue and observing regular hours Monday through Saturday, except for the early closing New Year's Eve and being closed New Year's Day. A special community "It's Frosty! Warm a heart--give blood!" drive is set January 2, 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Businesses are urged to send 2-5 employees to donate blood that day. And according to SWOBI Manager Tammy Whiteley, donors will get a special long sleeved OU or OSU Bowl Game shirt, a free cholesterol screening and more to give the gift of life.
Whitely says all blood types are needed but especially type O blood which physicians uses to save lives in emergency situations when seconds count.
Although no appointments are needed, those who want to make appointments that day or any day can call 353-6451.
The OBI also has centers in Ardmore and Ada plus several other locations.
