Speaking For A Wounded Community

GUY RAZ, HOST:

Earlier today, Patricia Llodra, who is the first selectman of Newtown, spoke about how her community is coping. Here is part of what she had to say.

PATRICIA LLODRA: Newtown has suffered a tremendous tragedy, a harm that has broken our hearts. Our wound is deep because we are a close-knit community. We truly care for each other.

We are coming together with love and support for those families who have suffered this terrible loss. We are a strong and caring place. We will put our arms around those families and around each other. We will find a way to heal, so that all of our residents, young and old, will again find peace.

RAZ: Newtown first selectman Patricia Llodra. There is still more to uncover on this story, and we are being careful to confirm the details as authorities piece together what happened on Friday, and as our own reporters gather new information.
