Austin, TX – Texas unemployment rose slightly to 4.7 percent in July as the state begins to feel the effects of the national economic slowdown.
That compares to a Texas jobless rate of 4.4 percent in June -- and 4.3 percent in July 2007.
The Texas Workforce Commission says employers added 17,500 non-farm jobs in July. That's less than the monthly average so far this year.
Nationally, the unemployment rate climbed to 5.7 percent in July, up from 5.5 percent in June.
