Houston, TX – Baker Hughes in Houston today reports the number of rigs actively exploring for oil and natural gas in the U.S. jumped by 23 this week -- to reach 1,990.
One year ago the rig count stood at 1,795.
Colorado gained eight rigs this week, while Alaska added five, Wyoming is up four and Louisiana has three more rigs. The North Dakota rig count is up by two.
New Mexico lost seven rigs, Arkansas lost two and Texas is down one rig.
The California and Oklahoma rig counts are unchanged.
